In my professional practice I combine a variety of therapies with the aim promoting optimal health for my clients. I approach each client as an individual - each with his or her own personal history, lifestyle and environmental influences. Rather than just managing just a set of symptoms, I collaborate with clients to promote health, prevent future illness and cultivate a greater awareness of factors that may be contributing to their suffering.

I work hard to forge strong, genuine and collaborative partnerships with those in my care. I engage with clients in a spirit of kindness, love and compassion while encouraging the highest degree of client autonomy and, all the while, respecting his or her strengths, needs, abilities and treatment preferences. I consider clients in my care essential contributors to their own recovery process.

I embrace an holistic approach to care that views clients within the context of their physical, emotional and spiritual lives using an integrative behavioral approach that uses conventional as well as complimentary therapies, therapies that arise from a variety of psychological, cultural and spiritual traditions, that support optimal health for clients by addressing the ways in which behavior, lifestyle, environment and genetics may be contributing to their ill health while appreciating that the environment in which we all live will inevitably interact with our genetic make-up - our heritable predispositions for resilience or fragility to a variety of mood and addictive disorders.

We are all born into a state of holism - a healthy and reassuring connection with our environment, families and communities. But at some point in our lives, we may notice a sense of dis-ease - an uncomfortable lack of connection and balance. Some of us may then try to reconnect through spiritual quests or even alcohol or drug use. Others, in the pain of loss, may shut-down emotionally.

Today, we know that a comprehensive and skillfully coordinated program of behavioral and environmental adjustments can arrest and even reverse the progression of a wide range of emotional and behavioral disorders. In fact, skillful management of behavior, thinking, lifestyle and environment can actually prevent the occurrence of mood and substance use disorders. I and my clients work together to address their whole personhood - body mind and spirit. We pay special attention to what might be present in the person's physical, social and emotional environment that could be supporting the occurrence or progression of their illness. I work hard to help my clients to develop individualized, participant-responsive healing practices, while encouraging them to take personal responsibility for living skillfully and in a way that defeats the root causes of the disorders from which they suffer.
